Easy Tomato Salad for Four People

Here is another one of U’s creations, a simple refreshing Summer tomato everyone can enjoy.

Take about 4 to 6 ripe tomatoes, preferably on the vine tomatoes

Cut them into half and scoop out some of the seeds, than cut each half into four or six slices into a bowl.  Add:

a half onions, sliced,

A handful of parsley, flat or Italian type, chopped

Make the vinaigrette, see below.  Pour some over tomatoes.  (You will have left over vinaigrette, use it for another salad).

Best if done an hour or so before eating.  Enjoy!

Vinaigrette

¼ cup red wine vinegar

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

½ cup Olive oil, or vegetable oil

¼ cup of water

Salt and pepper

Whisk mustard and vinegar, than add oil, water, salt and pepper as needed, whisk until well combined

Weekend Fun: Annual Swiss Festival

This past weekend, we went to the Swiss Festival celebrating all things Swiss. It is similar to the American holiday of 4th of July. There was raclette (melted cheese on potatoes), baked goods, handmade Swiss vendors, and traditional music. Hosted in the Swiss Park in Whittier, California, this is something the whole family can enjoy. Next year, mark your calendar, this a cultural event you can’t miss!

Visit the Franklin Canyons

The upper Franklin canyon reservoir!

If you live in West Los Angeles, this is a great weekend or even late afternoon hike. Now, to get there is just a short drive away.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franklin_Canyon_Park.  If you have the desire to be out in the country, go there and you feel like far away from the big city.  It is just a magical place.  If you have kids, prepare a little picnic and take them to this park.  There is a little side pond with ducks and turtles and a bunch of picnic tables.  So great for kids to just enjoy nature.  Not much needs to be done, just let them enjoy and they will find things like, bugs crawling, ducks swimming, turtles hanging around, squirrels scurrying around.

I used to take my kids to this park and we had a blast, by just being there.  We used to walk around the big reservoir, which will only take about 30 minutes, but this 30 minutes will be so enjoyable and pleasant both for you and your kids. Try it sometime and you will be amazed at this little oasis in the middle of our city jungle.

Watering the Hedges…

I understand that we’re not a financial blog but here is something that tickled our fancy the past week. What is different about this one is that the title is somewhat erotic.

How funny, the guy is fertilizing his hedges, but in reality it’s bad water.  His perception of his hedges are over his head…what is wrong with this picture?  How can we help this guy find the right fertilizer?

Any thoughts?

The Joys of Our Job

Recently I’ve been thinking about why I enjoy my job and I’ve come to the conclusion that it is the people that make what I do fulfilling. The other day I visited a potential host in a very famous area in LA. This area is known for celebrities and wealth, which is what most foreign students assume is abundant in the City of Angels. When I came to the door, I was greeted with warmth. The home and the family was welcoming. As I started to get know to the couple, they were excited to host their first student. They wanted to accommodate, guide, and treat their student the same way as how they would with their own children. This gave me a feeling of ease to know there are people joining the program for the sake of cultural exchange other than just compensation. Although there are many like this family, there are others who do it solely for their financial shortcomings. Our goal is to find families that not only nurture their students but provide the best “service” possible for our clients.

Thank you for reading and please share,

Concerts on the Pier Starts Thursday July 11, 2013

Sorry for sounding redundant but the time has come to welcome the 29th annual Twilight Concerts on the Santa Monica Pier. Again, free of charge, so all you need is a picnic and blankets to lay out on the beach while you enjoy the music with your friends. Luckily, one of our hosts is a manager and we have the benefit of going backstage during these concerts (this is why Homestay in LA loves our hosts and partners).

The first concert will be featuring Surfer Blood, according the website sounds like a “cross between Best Coast and Weezer” if you are familiar. Regardless of the genre, the summer concert series has always been a local and tourist fav for 29 years.

If you have some leisure time and enjoy music, check out the concert. Twilight Concert

Meeting with SAE

Yesterday, I had a meeting with a school in Hollywood, SAE Institute. This school specializes in audio engineering for the music industry. They have 50 locations worldwide and caters to many students from around the world. The Institute prepares the students for careers in post production and recording. The perfect school for creative types with the passion for music.

I met with the international marketing manager at the Cat and the Fiddle. An LA hot spot where many go to see live music and imbibe on delicious spirits. The meeting was relaxed and comfortable. We are excited to work with this school in the very near future.

Check them out SAE Institute.

Enjoy,
